Makasutu Forest occupies an area of 1000 acre of land and beautifully situated at the bank of the Kembujeh tributary in the Gambia. It encompasses different eco systems-gallery forest, savannah mangrove, palm forest and wetland/salt flats. With these diverse eco systems, an assortment of a diverse wild life is to be seen. Our clients learn more about Gambia nature and glimpse the resident baboons. Maksutu means holy forest and you will walk in this forest whilst getting told about the history and about the inhabitants of the forest. In a dug out canoe you will go through part of this forrest and you will only hear the sound of silence, the paddle and the birds.
Makasutu forest has an open restaurant and that is where our clients have their lunch. It is funny to say this, the monkeys around the forest where the restaurant is situated are too smart that, if you are not also smart, they will join you on your table in the restaurant and eat your lunch for you. Except if our clients want to give the monkeys this chance to have specials pictures. Lunch is followed by a cultural entertainment by various tribes in the area.
After leaving Makasutu a stop is made at the Brikama. This town is becoming a new economic centre in the Gambia and also houses various schools and institutes. You will visit the wood carving centre seeing both young and old dynamic Gambian people displaying their talents in art and craft, and they all contribute towards the economy growth in the country. Here you can find good deals!
